Michael Melendez Biography
Biography - Michael Melendez is a native of Fullerton, CA and currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in family history from Brigham Young University. Michael was introduced to genealogy by his grandfather when he was 15 years old. Since then, he served as a volunteer staff member at the Orange Regional Family History Center for several years, specializing in periodicals. For his Boy Scout eagle project, Michael organized a family history "Jamboree" for beginners. He also helped organize and present at the 2008 and 2009 Kid's Camps at the SCGS Jamboree. For his efforts, he has received the FGS Youth Award, as well as the APG Young Professionals Scholarship. During this time, Michael earned his AA degree from Fullerton College in history.
Michael served a 2 year LDS mission in St. Louis, Missouri where he had the opportunity to organize community family history events and present at regional conferences. Since then, he has lectured at national conferences and now specializes in southern U.S. research. Michael plans to pursue a career in forensic genealogy, with a specific interest in probate and adoption research. Michael is the current president of the UGA Student Chapter.
