Dining and Shopping

Dining during SLIG can be a bit overwhelming if you don't know your options. It can seem like there's not much close by, but in reality you have quite a few options.

The welcome reception, our first meal-event, will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Come pick up your syllabus and registration materials, meet fellow students, and mingle with instructors. Light refreshments will be served but this is not a complete meal.

For the first time we will be offering a daily continental breakfast as part of your registration. Breakfast will include fruit, pastries, coffee, tea, and juice each morning in the main Wasatch hallway. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 AM - 7:45 AM.

Other Nearby Options:

The New City Creek Center:

City CreekFor the past several years the downtown area of Salt Lake City has been under renovation.  A bold project called Downtown Rising has literally torn down two full blocks of all but the most historical buildings and rebuilt the area from the ground up.  The new mixed-used development includes shopping, dining, entertainment, office space, and condominiums, along with beautiful pathways and the restored creek that originally wound its way through that area.

City Creek begins just one block east of the Radisson. If you enjoy the walk, it is two short blocks to the food court, located on the east side of the center.  If you prefer to ride, take any TRAX line Southbound to the city center stop; this will place you nearest the east entrance to City Creek, close to the food court.

Dining at Temple Square:

Temple Square Hospitality offers a variety of restaurants within a few blocks of the Radisson.  The Nauvoo Cafe is located on the corner of South Temple and Main in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, two blocks east of the Radisson and offers quick cafeteria-style/food-to-go dining.  On the top floor of that same building, the Garden Restaurant and The Roof Restaurant provide great views along with great food.  The Garden is more casual with American Cuisine.  The Roof accurately describes itself as "Utah's premier gourmet dining buffet".   If you have your significant other along and want a romantic view and an elegant meal, The Roof Restaurant is a don't-miss experience.

Just east of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building as you continue along South Temple, you will find the Lion House and Beehive House, two historical buildings that once belonged to Brigham Young.  Turn left on the small path to the west of them to find the Lion House Pantry, which features "home-style fare" in the basement of the Lion House.

The Gateway:

Just a few blocks southwest of the Radisson is The Gateway--an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment area.  The Gateway offers a wide variety of dining venues from Applebee's to Wing Nutz.  You will find a Japanese sushi bar, a Pub & Grub, and even a Brazilian Grill.  A complete listing, along with detailed maps of both levels, may be found on their website.

The Canyon Creek Cafes Food Court is located directly west of the Planetarium off 100 South.  There you will find several fast food options such as Orange Julius, Subway, and Taco Time.

To get to the Gateway, walk west on South Temple to 400 West and turn left.  Alternately, board any Northbound TRAX line at the Arena Station located 1/2 a block west of the Radisson and exit at the Planetarium Station.

If this whets your appetite, make sure to go to visitsaltlake.com for even more options in the downtown Salt Lake City area.  You will find everything from mouthwatering steak to italian or mexican cuisine within easy walking distance.
